Route Setter

Position: Route Setter – Top Rope/Lead & Bouldering

Salary: Starting $17.50/hour; commensurate with experience

Position: Part-time (4-10 hours a week)

Closing: August 2nd, 2024

We are looking for Route Setter(s) to join our team. Preference will be given to candidates that can demonstrate relevant work and climbing experience, and suitable availability.

Duties:

  • Set routes and boulders in a commercial climbing environment
  • Participate in forerunning shifts to maintain route quality control
  • Work as part of collaborative setting team
  • Accept and provide constructive feedback on route quality 
  • Contribute to consensus on route and boulder grades
  • Inspect setting equipment and report safety issues promptly
  • Maintain setting equipment and wash climbing holds
  • Assist in setting and organization of climbing competitions and provide support during other events
  • Report to the Head Route Setter, and the ARC management team

Who you are:

  • A passionate climber, with comprehension of a variety of climbing movements and styles
  • Ability to climb ~5.11 and ~V4 in a variety of styles
  • Competent at indoor (gym) lead climbing
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills (office, Gsuite, email)
  • Diplomatic and outgoing personality, capable of fostering relationships with facility users and staff

Additional assets:

  • A diverse approach to climbing/route setting relative to the current route setting team (including but not limited to, morphology, gender, and climbing ability)
  • A healthy perspective on route/boulder grades, athletic empathy, and the route setters role in a climbing community 
  • Previous route setting experience
  • Previous working at heights experience
  • Previous experience in trades, labor or general construction work
  • Industry certifications in the field of climbing (ACMG CGI 1 or equivalent) 

Availability:

  • Rope setting weekly on Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings (8am-1230pm)
  • Boulder resets every 6-weeks on weekday morning or weekend evening
  • Occasional weekday and weekend evening shifts around competitions and events 
  • Other tasks with flexible timing (maintenance, hold washing, etc.)
