Summer Camp Counsellor

Position: Youth Summer Camp Counsellor (1 position)
Contract Length: 12 Weeks (June 15th-September 4th), with possible extension to part-time during the school year.
Supervisor: Summer Camp Program Coordinator
Hours: 35-40/hr a week, Monday – Friday. Weeknights and weekends as needed.
Pay: $17.25/hour

What you’ll do:

  • Responsible for the implementation of summer camp programs at ARC.
  • Responsible for providing support to the coordinator and assisting in supervising, teaching and leading the youth attending the summer programming
  • Assist in creating a welcoming, safe program environment for all participants.
  •  Facilitate programs such as rock climbing, co-operative games, nature hikes, outdoor living skills, orienteering, and arts and crafts
  • Ensure all program policies and procedures are implemented and carried out in day-to-day operations
  •  Professionally communicate directly with clients, both the children attending the Summer Camps and their parents, daily.
  •  Provide site support through general maintenance, program setup, and supervision of activities.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working directly with children
  •  Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent written communication skills
  •  Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment, responding to sensitivity and personal awareness of the diverse needs of members, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • Time management skills – must be able to plan, organize and prioritize
  •  Computer skills using Microsoft Office
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-Level C

 

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Bilingual
  • Previous Day Camp experience
  • Knowledge of climbing procedures and safety guidelines
